Tactical Data Links (TDL's)
Putting you in control...
3SDL offers a wide range of independent professional services to meet many of the emerging challenges faced by those procuring, supporting and operating military tactical data communications systems and in particular, Tactical Data Links (TDL).
Our highly experienced core team primarily operates as the “Customer’s Friend”, assisting our national and international government clients in the study, procurement, development, management, operation and sustainment of tactical communication systems. We also have a peerless training services team, geared towards enhancing clients’ awareness and understanding of complex tactical data communications systems.
Balanced yet highly focused, 3SDL also benefits from in excess of 100 years of TDL experience alone and is therefore very highly regarded throughout the international TDL community. The Company understands the significance of new technologies, emerging threats and new operating environments and what this means for those involved in technology development, procurement, and those people currently operating in today’s complex battlespace. Our consultancy and support services also seek to minimise risk and cost whilst maximising delivery of military data communications systems capability.
3SDL’s specific TDL and tactical data communications support capabilities cover the following areas:
- Links 11, 16 and 22.
- Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) / Multi-functional Information Distribution System (MIDS).
- TDL Messaging Standards, Protocols and Interoperability.

Our team of consultants has also contributed significantly to the management and subsequent investigation of tactical communications issues arising during recent NATO and coalition operations, such as ALLIED FORCE, TELIC and HERRICK. Moreover, our team also has experience in facilitating post-operations Joint debriefs and preparing subsequent ‘lessons identified’ reports on behalf of military clients.
3SDL has also been central to a number of key international TDL events over the past 5 years and our contacts and access to government departments, researchers and suppliers across the globe is excellent and arguably unique.
3SDL believes that in delivering high quality consultancy support, a balance of engineering expertise and current military experience is essential. While some rely on complex engineering solutions and the advice/contacts of very senior former military officers, our advice is based on a more open-minded and balanced approach. Our engineers and former military personnel work hand in hand, drawing on very recent combat and command experience. They are as up to date as is possible, as well as being flexible and innovative thinkers, and understand the problems of today and the future; whilst drawing upon lessons hard learnt from the past.
Whether advising on user and system requirements, supporting the delivery of interoperable systems or identifying and rectifying capability gaps, 3SDL has the expertise to help you deliver.
