| Position: | Director of C4 ISTAR |
| Joined 3SDL: | November 2009 |
Background:
I always wanted to be a pilot, but being somewhat visually challenged, I opted for what I considered to be the next best thing and joined the RAF as a Fighter Controller. This was a rewarding and varied career involving operational tours in all the nicest areas of the world, interspersed with a number of management, operational and training roles in the homeland defence arena. The latter part of my RAF career saw me working in various Command & Control and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C2ISR) interoperability projects. I retired from the RAF in May 2008, immediately setting up my own consultancy business, AMc4i Ltd. Very early on, I had the pleasure of working closely with 3SDL in support of a UK MoD ISTAR project; such were the synergies between us that AMc4i was subsumed into 3SDL in November 2009.
Specialist Skills:
My 20-year RAF career gave me a strong operational background in Command and Control, Battlespace Management, and ISR/ISTAR. Using this experience, I have focussed on providing specialist advice on concepts, interoperability, experimentation, training, and testing. I pride myself in my ability to maximise the operational benefits of equipment or systems – acting as a linch-pin between the engineers and operators. Helping to develop front-line capability that works and that the operators like is what we do; it makes a difference.
Personal:
I’m married with 2 teenage children and have a couple of lovable but rather boisterous golden retrievers. When I’m not helping to run 3SDL, I enjoy cooking and socialising, although both my wife and I seem to spend a vast amount of time ferrying the children back and forth to the rowing club!
Favourite Saying:
'Don’t just talk, say something!'
