Position:Defence Communications Overseas Team Member
Joined 3SDL:October 2007

Background:

I specialised in Tactical Data Links (TDLs) during a 15 year career with the Royal Air Force as an Aerospace Systems Manager. Working within the UK Air Defence Ground Environment as a TDL Supervisor, and during the last 4 years of my career as a TDL Network Manager, enabled me to get a sound grounding in TDL principles. I chose to leave the RAF in 2000 and gained employment with BAE Systems as a Senior Flight Test Engineer. The next 7 years were spent flight testing TDLs on Tornado F3 and Nimrod MRA4; I also became a Flight Test Observer on an aircraft incorporated with the Sea Harrier avionics systems. In October 2007 I joined 3SDL and have and have continued to provide specialist TDL support, mainly in the testing domain, to countries such as Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Austria and Australia.

Specialist Skills:

My specialist consultancy area is MIDS Link 16 testing, with particular focus towards testing multi-terminal ground based command and control systems in a live and dynamic environment. The complexity of these systems, and how best to test them, is always a challenge which I enjoy facing.

Personal:

I have 2 great children and a lovely partner who are the focus of my life. I’m pleased to say that we all enjoy leading an active lifestyle. When I’m not at work you will normally find me in the Lake District enjoying my passions of hill-walking, mountain biking and canoeing. I also have another hobby of singing with a band that plays events for free to raise money for charities.

Favourite Saying:

'When I get old I want to say I enjoyed the ride.'
