Success Story: Eyes on Target 12

Project:

3SDL Airborne ISR Services (AIS) Team, in partnership with Resource Group and Ferranti Technologies, successfully delivered an ISR technology services awareness event, 'Eyes on Target 2012' (EOT), at the Cotswold Airport on 27 – 28 June. The EOT event was designed to showcase the latest range of affordable ISR training and delivery capabilities. These mature technologies are available for a broad range of applications; particularly to those interested in training, who must stay current, effective and within budget.

The two day event comprised of specific briefings on ISR skills, issues and live scenarios using manned and unmanned platforms, which centred around a common ‘Ops Centre’. Around 80 guests attended the event, from a variety of military and civilian organisations. Guests were able to experience the use of sector-leading equipment first hand, talk with representatives from each company about their specific ISR and training issues, as well as fly in 3SDL’s DA42 aircraft.

The aircraft successfully showcased its on-board MX15HDi Wescam sensor, which provided real-time sensor feeds into the Ops Centre. Of particular interest, this sensor payload demonstrated a unique EO / IR Blend capability which allows the operator to view an enhanced video stream in urban areas and low-light / night ops conditions.

In support of each scenario, 3SDL’s defence communications team provided the ground-based network infrastructure, which included; Command and Control, wireless multicast of live streaming video feed, remote control of the airborne sensor, platform communications links and integrated moving map software. This demonstrated a range of SME capabilities that 3SDL can offer and will continue to expand, in order to support the future needs of its customers.

In summary, EOT12 successfully delivered value to its attendees and demonstrated the affordability and availability of 3SDL’s airborne ISR services and ground infrastructure solutions. It also set the benchmark for future EOT events and has received excellent reviews from a number of guests, for example; The BBC’s Security Correspondent, Frank Gardner, his report can be found here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18633664
