Current Vacancies

Junior Software Developer

The software team is looking to expand their team. They work with defence and industry clients to provide efficient software solutions to real world complex problems. They are looking to expand their growing team and welcome a student in as a Junior Developer on a 12 month contract initially – with a view of progression into a permanent position going forward.

While there are a wide range of different projects candidates can get involved with, main responsibilities will include software development for various projects the company are currently undertaking. At a high-level we expect our candidates to have:

  • A general appreciation of the full SDLC
  • Good knowledge of IP networking

The wide range of projects means that the team works with a large range of technologies and languages. As such we look for any/ as many of the following skills in our candidates:

  • Java/ C++/ Python
  • C#/ WPF/ .Net/ ASP .Net
  • Qt
  • JavaScript/ HTML
  • Perl
  • Bash

Experience in at least one of the below technologies is highly desirable for this role.

Marketing Intern

3SDL are looking to take on a marketing intern. They are opening this opportunity initially on a 12 month fixed contract – with a view for permanent employment in the future. 

While there are a number of different opportunities for this role, the main areas of work will involve working on the ongoing development of marketing for 3SDL. This will include:

  • Enhancing and maintaining the company’s presence on social media using Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to assist with developing campaigns and the day-to-day analysis of uploaded posts.
  • Putting together the company’s quarterly newsletter by way coordinating and collating articles from various parts of the business and sourcing the supporting material.
  • Maintaining a database of 3SDL’s clientele. This will additionally involve the analysis of our clients against sales performance and direct communication regarding the company’s performance.
  • Supporting the content development and analysis on the 3SDL website.
  • Providing support and planning for major industry conferences and events in order to optimise the value in the visits.
  • Support monthly meetings and liaison with our graphical material provider, Bravedog.

Essential competencies and experience:

  • Comfortable with the idea of digital marketing material and its manipulation.
  • The ability to work independently without face-to-face line management is essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication. Experience with stakeholders and clients is a bonus.

Desirable competencies and experience:

  • Previous exposure with standard marketing approaches.
  • Experience/ interest for working in a project based environment.
  • Marketing knowledge for small businesses.
  • Client relationship building.

Principal Systems Engineer, Command Control & Communications

3SDL is seeking to recruit a principal systems engineer to join our team of command, control and communications specialists. Previous experience in this sector of the Defence Industry is essential.

The ideal candidate will also have significant commercial experience including the ability to win new contracts. The candidate will require the skills to deliver successful bids, not only business to business, but also for UK and overseas government clients.

This post will be based in the UK at either Malvern or Lincoln. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • Self-motivation;
  • Team skills and a flexible approach to working within a small, but expanding, close-knit team;
  • A willingness to take responsibility and make decisions;
  • Technical innovation;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

The successful candidate will be qualified to degree-level in an appropriate engineering/science disciple or demonstrate equivalent experience.The candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and have up-to-date knowledge in the following areas:

  • Modern communications systems including tactical data links;
  • Communications principles such as compression, encoding and digital waveforms;
  • Software defined radios;
  • Communications system definition & integration;
  • Test & trials support for customers or suppliers.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Project management expertise;
  • Working with and managing sub-contractors;
  • Requirements definition, design certification and configuration control; and
  • Familiarity with NATO Tactical Data Link doctrine, architecture development and associated documentation.

The ability to hold NATO Security Clearances and willingness to travel are essential for this role.

ISR Instructor/Consultant

Following continued success and a recent expansion of contracted training, 3SDL is looking for a further highly-experienced, suitably-qualified and passionate Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Instructor/Consultant in a permanent role. Whilst course development and instruction will be a large part of the job, opportunity exists to travel, Programme Manage, Business Develop and be involved in Team Strategy.

Essential Competencies and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years previous employment within the ISR arena, in the air or on the ground, and across all environments.
  • A proven track record in successful and inspiring ISR instruction.
  • The innovation and drive to see, create and win new work as well as delivering it to the highest standards.
  • Excellent team player, who knows themselves with the emotional intelligence to get the best out of others.
  • The ability to travel across the UK and internationally regularly for short periods.
  • Security Cleared.

Desirable Competencies and Experience

  • Qualified Weapons Instructor (ISR).
  • Previous Imagery Analysis instructor/practitioner level experience.
  • Previous Unmanned Air Vehicle experience.
  • ISR experience from a number of different platforms, sensors and systems.
  • Developed Vetting.
  • Fluency in a second language.

Command Control and Communications Team Project Manager

3SDL is seeking to recruit a Project Manager to join our expanding Command, Control and Communications (C3) Team.With opportunities to travel both within the UK and internationally, this is an exciting opportunity to join the growing 3SDL team.

Working closely with the C3 Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to agreed project metrics (e.g. finance, planning, risks and issues); drafting and monitoring budgets; and supporting and coordinating key projects throughout the whole project life-cycle.

You will be supporting technical and operations-related Defence projects each to a value of up to £1M (typically over an 18-24 month period). These projects include cutting edge information and communications systems on land, maritime and/or air platforms.

Although a background in Defence would be useful, in this instance we are most interested in proven strong project management skills as well as an individual with the right attitude and personality.Successful candidates will therefore need to show the following qualities:

Team skills and a flexible approach to working;

  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly;
  • Ability to engage with clients and stakeholders;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Previous Project Management experience.

Highly desirable experience includes:

  • Recognised Project Management qualification; and
  • Budget management.

Administrator Lincoln

3SDL are looking to recruit a dynamic and reliable administrator capable of independent working to join our rapidly growing team based in our Lincoln office.

Reporting to our Malvern based Administration Manager, as well as standard office tasks, this role will provide administrative to support our training business in the UK and overseas.

The right candidate will be able to evolve this role as the company grows. Your imagination and ambition will set the limits!

Experience of defence security and export an advantage but not essential as training can be provided.
