Current Vacancies

Principal Systems Engineer, Command Control & Communications

3SDL is seeking to recruit a principal systems engineer to join our team of command, control and communications specialists. Previous experience in this sector of the Defence Industry is essential.

The ideal candidate will also have significant commercial experience including the ability to win new contracts. The candidate will require the skills to deliver successful bids, not only business to business, but also for UK and overseas government clients.

This post will be based in the UK at either Malvern or Lincoln. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • Self-motivation;
  • Team skills and a flexible approach to working within a small, but expanding, close-knit team;
  • A willingness to take responsibility and make decisions;
  • Technical innovation;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

The successful candidate will be qualified to degree-level in an appropriate engineering/science disciple or demonstrate equivalent experience.The candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and have up-to-date knowledge in the following areas:

  • Modern communications systems including tactical data links;
  • Communications principles such as compression, encoding and digital waveforms;
  • Software defined radios;
  • Communications system definition & integration;
  • Test & trials support for customers or suppliers.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Project management expertise;
  • Working with and managing sub-contractors;
  • Requirements definition, design certification and configuration control; and
  • Familiarity with NATO Tactical Data Link doctrine, architecture development and associated documentation.

The ability to hold NATO Security Clearances and willingness to travel are essential for this role.

ISR Instructor/Consultant

Following continued success and a recent expansion of contracted training, 3SDL is looking for a further highly-experienced, suitably-qualified and passionate Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Instructor/Consultant in a permanent role. Whilst course development and instruction will be a large part of the job, opportunity exists to travel, Programme Manage, Business Develop and be involved in Team Strategy.

Essential Competencies and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years previous employment within the ISR arena, in the air or on the ground, and across all environments.
  • A proven track record in successful and inspiring ISR instruction.
  • The innovation and drive to see, create and win new work as well as delivering it to the highest standards.
  • Excellent team player, who knows themselves with the emotional intelligence to get the best out of others.
  • The ability to travel across the UK and internationally regularly for short periods.
  • Security Cleared.

Desirable Competencies and Experience

  • Qualified Weapons Instructor (ISR).
  • Previous Imagery Analysis instructor/practitioner level experience.
  • Previous Unmanned Air Vehicle experience.
  • ISR experience from a number of different platforms, sensors and systems.
  • Developed Vetting.
  • Fluency in a second language.

The post is not tied to a particular location; the successful applicant could work from either the Lincoln or Malvern offices, and home-working will be considered for the right candidate. Command Control and Communications Team Project Manager

3SDL is seeking to recruit a Project Manager to join our local small medium enterprise. With opportunities to travel both within the UK and internationally, this is an exciting opportunity to join the growing 3SDL team.

You will be responsible for ensuring adherence to agreed project metrics (e.g. finance, planning, risks and issues); drafting and monitoring budgets; and supporting and coordinating key projects throughout the whole project life-cycle.

You will be supporting technical and operations-related Defence projects each to a value of up to £1M (typically over an 18-24 month period). These projects include cutting edge information and communications systems on land, maritime and/or air platforms.

Although a background in Defence would be useful, in this instance we are most interested in proven strong project management skills as well as an individual with the right attitude and personality. A successful candidate will therefore need to show the following qualities:

  • Team skills and a flexible approach to working;
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly;
  • Clients and stakeholder engagement;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; and
  • Attention to detail.

A recognized Project Management qualification and experience is essential. Previous budget management experience is also highly desirable.
