3SDL attended IDLS 2017
What a great week at the International Data Link Society (IDLS) annual symposium held this year in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It was especially important this year, as it was held just down the road from our Abu Dhabi office, so we had the opportunity to introduce all our Board Members to important Middle East customers and partners. The theme this year was Coalition Operations and Interoperability, so it was fantastic to have the opportunity to contribute to the training day by delivering a course on Link 16 Digital Control and Net-Enabled Weapons, as well as a number of shorter sessions on Training, Digitally-Aided Close Air Support (DACAS) and TDL Acquisition as part of the education stream.
3SDL’s theme, “The Art of Communication” centred around a traditional-looking Art Gallery trade stand, with various pictures depicting where poor communications and interoperability had caused past military failures. Whilst being a little “edgy” for some, it attracted significant praise from the vast majority and enabled us to engage with very many new friends as well as re-acquainting ourselves with long-standing ones. Such was the success at this year’s event, that we signed a brand new and highly significant training contract with a Middle East customer that we are excited about delivering in the very near future.
Along with all the hard work, there was of course time to socialise and enjoy each other’s company; the organised off-road 4 x 4 Safari to a desert camp, where we enjoyed some serious “dune-bashing” before being entertained to local dance whilst enjoying traditional Arabic food, was the highlight of the social programme. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the IDLS committee for organising such a great event this year – beat that San Diego!
