Tony Appleton joins 3SDL's growing Cyber Team
3SDL are delighted to welcome Tony Appleton to the team. Tony joins 3SDL's growing Cyber team after a 29-year flying career in the Royal Air Force followed by 3 years in defence related companies.
During his military career Tony achieved 7,000 flying hours across a broad spectrum of roles on several different ISR aircraft. Half of his career was spent as an Anti-Submarine Warfare operator with the Maritime Surveillance force in Scotland, normally flying in collaboration with the Royal Navy. After a move to Lincolnshire he retrained first as an Electronic Warfare operator and then as a Tactical Data Link operator. He was deployed all over the world in dynamic environments and spent a period embedded within the USAF. During this period he was also an aircrew instructor, assessor and course designer.
Since leaving service he has worked as a blended e-learning Project Manager and latterly as a Ground School Instructor of future pilots undertaking Elementary Flying Training. During this time Tony was selected, after a rigorous selection process, to attend the SANS Cyber Re-Training Academy as part of the government funded National Cyber Security Strategy. This unique initiative is designed to fast-track technically minded individuals into the field of cyber-security. He completed 4 SANS courses in 10 weeks and gained GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) and GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) qualifications.
Tony will be supporting 3SDL in continuing to grow its Cyber business, building on our recently announced successes in delivering Cyber Vulnerability Investigations Support to the MOD as well as the broad range of other Cyber services 3SDL offers.
