3SDL sleeps rough for YMCA Lincolnshire Sleep Easy 2019
August 16, 2018
Last week, a team from 3SDL took part in YMCA Lincolnshire’s 10th Annual Sleep Easy at Lincoln Cathedral to raise awareness of homelessness in Lincolnshire. Sponsored sleepers gained a small insight into what it might be like to sleep rough, sheltering under cardboard boxes in the Cathedral grounds from 7pm on Friday to 7am the next day.
101 brave people signed up to sleep rough, alongside a team of volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the evening and night to provide hot drinks, snacks, shelter building assistance and moral support. Though the weather was not kind, it was all worthwhile as 3SDL’s Levi Birch and Mark Barmby raised £432, with over £22,000 raised in total by Sleep Easy 2019. Since 2010, across the UK more than 6,000 people have slept rough for a night to raise awareness of homelessness and raise vital funds to support local YMCA services.
The Sleep Easy 2019 participants may have slept rough for a night, but thousands of people across the UK have no other choice but to spend night after night sleeping rough. This year monies raised by YMCA Lincolnshire and Sleep Easy will go towards building a vital day centre and emergency overnight accommodation in Lincoln, and there is still time to donate to the fund by visiting: www.justgiving.com/campaign/sleepeasy.
